John K. Whiteman, 72, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, WI. He was born December 27, 1939 to John and Margaret (Benner) Whiteman in Nett Lake, Minnesota. He graduated from Orr High School in 1957. Following high school, he joined the Navy. When he returned home from the military, he married Patricia Hinman in November of 1964 in Orr, MN. In 1967 he trained to become a Heavy Equipment Operator at the Staples Area Vocational School, Staples, MN. In 1968 he joined the Local 49 International Union Operating Engineers; in 2003 he retired from Carl Bolander and Sons. In 2007 John and Patricia built a home in Black River Falls, WI to spend their retirement years. John was an avid outdoorsman for most of his life John enjoyed moose hunting, deer hunting and fishing, gardening, working on his house, and spending time with his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Muriel Schauer of Black River Falls, Samantha Whiteman (Bradley BlackHawk) of Moundsview, MN, and Shannon (Carl) Hartwig of Blaine, MN; 8 grandchildren, Daryl (Jenny) McKenna of Rosemont, MN,  Jonathan McKenna, Jessica Whiteman, Nicole Whiteman-Schauer, Alexander Whiteman-Schauer, John Whiteman,  Emanuel Whiteman, Summer Blackhawk; 5 great grandchildren, Roy Cervantes, Alexis Cervantes, Nehomah Whiteman, Aye-va Whiteman, and Gabriel McKenna; sister, Elizabeth Gonier of Crystal, MN; brother, Ronald Whiteman of Little Falls, MN; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by, parents, John and Margaret; sister, Florence Barto; brothers, Eugene, Wally, and Billy Whiteman and daughter Rachelle McKenna.


Services will be held Friday, February 17, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post, Black River Falls. There will also be a time of gathering after, with a dinner to be served.
