Artist, Joe Geshick, born on June 21, 1943, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at home in Ely. He grew up in Nett Lake, and lived in St. Paul for many years where he owned an art studio for 16 years. He was a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.
Joe will be greatly missed by family, relatives, friends and all who loved him.
He left us with many gifts and his spirit lives on.
He is survived by his wife, LeeAnn of Ely; 1 son, Joe Gurneau of Mpls.; 1 brother, Raymond (Holly) Geshick of Ely; 1 sister, Donna Lee of St. Paul,; and a much loved extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Day and Cecelia Geshick; 1 brother, Richard Geshick in 2008; 1 sister, Beatrice Geshick; and an aunt, Ruth Geshick who recently died.
SERVICES: Traditional Tribal Services were held at 10:00 AM Tuesday (December 8, 2009) at the Vermilion Wellness Center in Tower. The spiritual advisor was Peter White. The casket bearers were: Raymond Geshick Sr., Raymond Geshick Jr., Jeff Geshick, Melvin Geyshick, Gary Gotchnik and Joe Gurneau. The honorary bearers were: Brian Hoffman, John Hoffman, Johnny Barich, Bill Latady, Wesley Crawford and Joe Bohlin. The visitation was after 6:00 PM Monday at the center.
Interment was in the Vermilion Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
