Janice Lynn Hartland, 66, Tower, died on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the
Cook Nursing Home.
Janice was born on August 20, 1948 in Tower the daughter of Archie and
Mary (Donald) Curry. She grew up in Tower, and graduated from Tower
High School. She moved to Duluth and attended UMD. She later moved to
Minneapolis and was employed with American Title Insurance Company.
She returned to Tower in 2001. She was a member of the Bois Forte Band
of Chippewa. Janice enjoyed bingo/casino, watching game shows, was an
avid reader, and was adept at solving cross word puzzles and Sudoku.
Her greatest joy and accomplishment was raising her grandchildren, Cassadra, Shaylynn and
Rustin Hartland Jr.. She dearly loved all of her grandchildren very much.
Janice had been making her home the last two years at the Cook Nursing Home.
She is preceded in death by 2 brothers- Arthur Curry and Alec Pete; and 1 sister - Myrna Pete.
Janice is survived by 3 sons- Daniel (Charity Warrington) Curry Sr. of Hibbing, David (Rojean)
Hartland of Virginia, and Rustin Hartland Sr. of Tower; 1 brother- Howard Pete of Duluth;
14 Grandchildren; 7 Great grandchildren with another one soon to be born; along with many
nieces, nephews and friends.
SERVICES: Traditional services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Vermilion
Wellness Center in Tower, where visitation will start after 4:00 PM on Thursday. The spiritual leader
will be Gilbert Smith and the spiritual leader assistant will be Gene Goodsky. The casket bearers
will be Daniel Curry Sr., Ron Reynolds, Rustin Hartland Jr., Daniel Curry Jr., Dominique Curry and
Peter “Chief” Boney. Honorary bearers will be Andyr Warrington, David Hartland, Rustin Hartland
Sr. and Clint Miller. Interment will be in the Bois Forte Vermilion Reservation Cemetery in Tower.
