Donald “Magoo” Hoagland,
58, Nett Lake, passed away on
Saturday, January 14, 2012,
at Essentia Health (St. Mary’s
Medical Center) in Duluth.
He was born at Cass Lake on
December 10, 1953, to Leland
and Vera (Wakemup-Belt)
Hoagland. He grew up in Nett
Lake, attended school there and
at theFaribault, MN School for
the Blind. He lived in Minneapolis for many years
and recently moved back to Nett Lake. He was
a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.
His family fondly recalls that his passion was 211,
gambling and partying with family and friends. He made many friends in Minneapolis and will be missed by many. He is survived by 1 daughter, Vera Lee Hoagland (Dwayne) Kulp of Columbus, Ohio; 1 brother, Leland Mark Hoagland of Faribault, MN; 5 sisters, Cheryl “Tick-o” Jensen of Nett Lake, Dolly (Jason Bellanger) Hoagland of Bemidji, Betsy May of White Earth, MN, Wendy Hoagland of New Hope, MN and Rhonda Hoagland of Nett Lake; 8 Grandchildren: Leigh Ann Kulp, Dewayne Kulp, Lilah Jane Kulp, Marpell Bob, Brea Ann
Hoagland, Donald Gary Hoagland III., Angel Lee Hoagland and Ezna Donald Hoagland; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Donald Jr.; three brothers, Ted Hoagland Sr., Earl Hoagland and Richard Wakemup Hoagland; and one sister, Joyce Wakemup Day.
SERVICES: Traditional services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 18th) at the Nett Lake Community Center. Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Community Center. The spiritual advisor will be Gilbert Smith. The casket bearers will be: Vern Boney, Vern Connor, Joe Hoagland, Wendell Hoagland, Dave May and Robert May Jr. The honorary bearers will be all those in attendance. Interment will be in the new Nett Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
