Arlene M. Morrison


Arlene M. Morrison, 66, Nett Lake, passed away peacefully at home, with family at her  bedside, on Saturday, December 19, 2009, after a lengthy illness.  


She was born in Cloquet on June 9, 1943, to Melvin  and Jennie (Roy) King.  She  grew up and lived at Nett Lake most of  her life. She was affiliated with the Nett Lake Baptist Church for many years, and married Floyd Morrison there on January 9, 1987. Arlene loved to travel, and had the fortunate opportunity to see and visit many places throughout this country and the world.  Her family fondly recalls her  being extremely talented and “could fix , repair or make about anything.”   She made intricate dolls, beadwork and lamps.   She was a gifted seamstress and her homemade Christmas bows and wrappings were works of art.   She worked as a bookkeeper, heavy equipment operator, and a chemical dependency counselor.  An important part of her life was that of a foster parent (from 1977 to 1983).   She was a dedicated care provider and anyone who needed a home or a hug could count on Arlene.


She is survived by her husband Floyd; a son, E. Curt Goodsky of  Orr; 2 daughters, Dianna (Lt. Col. Steve) Goodsky-Hertig of Okinawa, Japan and Lela (Fred) Correa of Orr; 1 brother, M. Arnold King of Silverdale, MN;  6 sisters, Lorraine Villebrun  of Nett Lake, Lela Goodsky of Nett Lake, Jacqueline  Wilson of Minneapolis, Annabelle Whitecrow of Nett Lake, Joyce Kay Davis of Nett Lake and Barbara Jean Winehoff of Seattle, WA; 16 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other special relatives and friends. 


Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Sr. and Jennie King; siblings: Francis King, Nathaniel King, Norman King, and Lorraine King who died in infancy; and nephews: Timothy Pepworth, Brian Villebrun and Hunter King.


SERVICES:  Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Tuesday (Dec. 22nd) at the Nett Lake Baptist Church, with Rev. Kevin Lasley officiating.  Visitation was after 6:00 P.M. Monday at the church.  The casket bearers were: Leon Goodsky, Conrad King, Mike King, Dallas King, Melvin “Boy” King, Norman King and Arlene’s grandsons: Craig Goodsky, Francis Goodsky,  Sylver Goodsky, Curtis Goodsky and Seth King.  The honorary bearers were: Ed Villebrun, Warren Villebrun, Troy King, Terry King, Nate King, Greg Drift, Bobby King, Kevin King, Theo King and Lucas Mattson.  Interment was in the new Nett Lake Cemetery.
