Alec E. Pete
Alec E. Pete, “Now-ah-geshick”, 74, of Bois Forte-Vermilion, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at the Cook Nursing Home.
He was born at Bois Forte Reservation-Vermilion on November 24, 1935, to Howard and Mary (Donald) Pete Sr. Alec served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. After his honorable discharge he returned to Bois Forte-Vermilion, where he married Annie Strong on January 17, 1964. Alec was dedicated fire warden for numerous years. He and Annie raised nephew Daniel Curry, who they dearly loved and thought of as a son. Alec lived at Bois Forte-Vermilion all of his life, and was loved and respected by everyone . He was a band member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. Nearly everyone in the area knew his longtime companion dog Milo, and the family fondly recalls that if you brought food to Alec, make sure you brought some for Milo.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Pete on March 30, 2003.
He is survived by a brother, Howard Pete of Duluth; 2 sisters, Janice Hartland of Bois Forte-Vermilion and Myrna Pete of Duluth; by nephew Daniel Curry of Grand Rapids, MN-who was thought of as a son; along with several nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Traditional Tribal Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday (Nov. 27th) at the Bois Forte-Vermilion Wellness Center. Visitation will be after 4:00 PM Friday at the Center. The spiritual advisor will be Gilbert Smith. The casket bearers will be: Daniel Curry, David Hartland, James “Jimbo” Bosney, George Mihelich Jr., Junior Moyer and Michael Dunkley. The honorary bearer will be Robert Boshey. Military honors will be accorded by the Bois Forte Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Vermilion Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
