Alan W. Porter, 58, of Duluth, formerly of Nett Lake, passed away unexpectedlyat home on Saturday, June 23, 2012. He was born on June 6, 1954 at Cook, to Smoky Sunberg and Shirley Porter. Alan grew up in Nett Lake, and lived there and in Duluth most of his life.He enjoyed and appreciated the outdoors, and liked his frequent rides on his bike. Alan was honored to travel with the Elders on their trip to Las Vegas and surrounding sites last year. He was a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Debbie Porter. Alan is survived by his children, David Wakemup of Eveleth and Ashley in Virginia; 2 brothers, Keith (Tawnya) Porter of Int’l Falls and Ken (Patty) Bombay
of Ft. Frances, Canada; 5 sisters, Sandra (Jack Burdette) Bombay of South Carolina, Fern (Ray) Smith of Clearwater, Canada, Christine Bloom of Cook, and twins Teresa and Tracy Bergman, both of Wabasha, MN.

SERVICES: Traditional services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday (June 29th) at the Nett Lake Community Center, where the wake began after 5:00 p.m. Thursday. Steven Jackson was the spiritual advisor. The casket bearers were: Lance Kingbird, Mike Goggleye, Mark Connor and Barry Porter. Interment was in the Bois Forte Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook
