The Bois Forte Tribal Court provides for due process of criminal matters for all persons residing within the boundaries of the Bois Forte Reservation, Lake Vermilion Reservation, Sugarbush and Indian Point.
- The Band Prosecuter represents you, the people of the Bois Forte and Lake Vermilion Reservations.
- The public defender represents adult and juvenile defendants in Tribal Court.
Proposals sought for Tribal Court Judge
The Bois Forte Tribal Court is seeking proposals from attorneys interested in serving as Judge for the Bois Forte Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Judicial services will be required beginning January 2014. Responders must be admitted to practice and in good standing in the State of Minnesota. Proposals must include a summary of background and experience. Duties are part-time (24 – 30 hours per month) and involve both misdemeanor prosecutions and civil matters under the Bois Forte Code.
As a general rule, the Court is in session at Nett Lake, Minnesota two days (usually the second and fourth Wednesdays) each month. Teleconference arraignments and other duties are handled on an “as needed” basis. Indian preference will apply. Proposals should be sent to Wendy Thompson, Commissioner of Judicial Services, 12907 Palmquist Road, P.O. Box 25, Nett Lake, MN 55772 or by email to wmthompson@boisforte-nsn.gov. RFPs will close on May 10, 2013.

Court Dates for 2013
Defendants who reside in Nett Lake, Indian Point and surrounding communities are required to report to Probation Department at Tribal court office in Palmquist every FIRST THURSDAY of the month. Defendants who reside in Tower are required to report to Probation Department at the Vermilion Offices every THIRD THURSDAY of the month. Hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
