NETT LAKE, Minn. – The official vote totals were completed at 1:30 a.m. this morning and Election Board Chair Jeremy Hoagland announced the winners of three close races for seats on the Bois Forte Tribal Council.
Incumbent David Morrison was re-elected to his sixth term as Secretary-Treasurer by holding off challenger Joanne Donald.
In the race for District I Representative, voters elected Brandon Benner to his first term on the Tribal Council. Benner defeated incumbent Ray Villebrun, Sr. who has served on the Council in non-consecutive terms for twelve years.
In the District II election, incumbent Ray Toutloff won a second term, defeating political newcomer Kelly Dunkley.
June 11 is the deadline for any candidate to petition for a recount. The Minnesota Chippewa Tribe will review and certify the final results.
Bois Forte will host a swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Tribal Leaders on July 13 at Fortune Bay Resort Casino on Lake Vermilion.
