On May 9, 2018, the Bois Forte Election Contest Judge issued an Order on Remand from the Minnesota Chippewa Tribal Election Court of Appeals.  On April 20, 2018, the Election Contest Judge had decided that a new primary election should be conducted because of delays in sending out some absentee ballots that had been requested.  That order was appealed, and on May 8, 2018, the Tribal Court of Election Appeals issued a decision: (1) denying the appeals; (2) affirming the Contest Judge’s decision to set aside the results of the April 3, 2018, Primary Election; and (3) remanding the matter to the Election Contest Judge to specify the conditions under which a new primary election will be held.

The Election Contest Judge’s Order on Remand ordered: (1) that the new primary would have the same slate of candidates that were certified to stand for the April 3, 2018, Primary Election; and (2) that the Bois Forte General Election Board was to implement the election process immediately and that it must coordinate the timing and details of the new Primary Election under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.

The timeline for the New Primary Election is:

July 10, 2018 - New Primary Election

September 18, 2018 - Regular Election*
